Today I started a new contract as Technology Evangelist at Videosoftglobal. They do very clever things with video encoding - enabling successful video streaming over very low bandwidth links.
Now, I often see confusion over Tech Evangelism roles like this - my view is this:
Companies are often so busy doing what they do best (app dev, product development) that they forget to actual take the time to show others how crazy cool what they do is.
Ironically I'm guilty of this when I was working for Slingshot6 - always head down, nose to the grindstone working on projects and never taking the time to breathe and stop and do some show and tell.
Well, that's what VS want me to do - shout about how cool the tech is and help customers use it well.
Am looking forward to it.
